(Previous post, And You Are?)
I’m scouting sites for The Treehouse, as construction begins this Sunday, January 14th!
Some thoughts before we get started:
I encourage you to engage as beginners, maybe even pretend you’ve never heard this God story before, or pretend “The Holy Bible” is something you’re aware of but really know little about. If ‘forgetting’ is too hard, try imagining being in some science fiction story where your memory of certain things can be temporarily erased. (Think Men in Black, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Severance. Or make up your own scenario!)
I invite you to come first as listeners and experiencers. I’m keenly aware of how social media has refashioned our communal discourse in a way that doesn’t always allow for open expression of thoughts and opinions without receiving suggestions or advice in response. Here, and for our purposes, shall we agree our time together is not about convincing others or solving anything? Can we commit to holding space for uncertainty?
Please do share your “Aha!” moments and your “Golly, gee” surprises along the way! I anticipate rich and nourishing questions, insights, and observations from you lovely people! And I’m so looking forward to hearing your stories!
Obviously, disrespectful comments won’t be tolerated, but I don’t believe that’s why you’re here anyway. We can pledge to assume good intentions, even if someone says something we disagree with. I’m certain we are all here seeking something and that our searching matters deeply. That is important common ground.
I’m so grateful to you all for being willing to embark on this experiment of a journey with me. I honestly have no preconceived idea of where we will end up. And that is possibly the most exciting thing of all.
