Oh hell yes! I LOVE it when you rant, especially when you do so with such 🔥
I hope you continue this series for those of us without firm footing in Scripture who are interested in the details and the power of the REAL words of the guy who must be getting mighty tired of the way his name is so woefully misused….
Rebecca - Wow! You nailed it. This self-righteousness spun to sound like piety must be called out - and you do it so well. "Jesus is my Savior... T****P is my President" says the T-Shirt, the banner and the placard - but one is left to wonder - have these people read the Gospels??
Once again you have beautifully expressed the anger, disgust and frustration those of us who really try to be Christian have with those who only say they are and yet fail to demonstrate it in their lives or the way they treat others. I used to proudly call myself a fundamentalist Christian. I find that term entirely distasteful at this point and would never use it. And I see the absurd attitudes in my own family members which saddens me.
Thank you. I wonder if these are the issues Jesus would focus on today in a sermon on the mount type address. To confront the religious men who burdened people with additions to the Hebrew law, Jesus began those passages with, “You have heard said ________, but I say to you _______…” Jesus seemed especially sharp with those who engaged in performative acts that were carried out to draw attention to those engaged in the acts. He was dismissive of the religious who acted in ways intended to give them access to political and economic power structures. Having grown up in a traditional, conservative Christian faith community, I heard countless times that the Gospel plus anything else is a false doctrine. Nowadays, many from that community are embracing the Gospel + politics as the theology of the day. It is as false today as when Jesus called it out 2000 years ago.
