This is so great, congratulations on publishing such an important essay in such a highly visible setting. I am a dv survivor, and it is amazing how often "why didn't you/she leave" is asked when nobody seems to ask "why didn't he stop?" I also admire your years of work in this field. Grateful for all who helped me make it out.

The bravest thing I've ever done was leave my abusive marriage. The danger of doing so was real. I ended up getting protective orders as the harassment continued for years afterward. Twenty-three years later, I can truly say I am healed.

You were a blessing with your presence to those women.
